of the bridge over the Strait has become an epic. Decades have passed in proclamations, political discussions and sudden reversals. In recent months, however, our government seems to have announced the epilogue of this saga. After unlocking the contract by nearly 5 billion euro, won by Impregilo (consortium already "builder" of the notorious hospital Aquila), and after recently refinanced the Strait of Messina spa with a budget of 400 million euro in the Finance Act 2010, the Berlusconi government seems serious about starting to work.
Despite this fact, the theme of the bridge over the Strait remains a major dispute. As supported by the network-No Bridge, against such a project is opposed "one no, but many are." Behind this slogan are strong and well-founded criticisms, and key inputs that go beyond the "limited" horizon of the bridge. What will the environmental impact of the eventual building of the Great Work? Is there really a definitive engineering design, taking into account the geophysical characteristics of the Strait? What are the risks of mafia infiltration bridge the income it could generate? There will be really lasting benefits to the local socio-economic (employment, improvement of transport)?
Above all, we are sure that the area of \u200b\u200bthe Strait of Messina really need the bridge? We believe that other priorities are, both for the development sustainable and harmonious country (environment, infrastructure) and for the socio-economic prospects of the communities involved. We also believe that the bridge can be regarded as a "metaphor", an example of how too often in our country is addressing issues relating to the promotion of the territory. Disclosing the dispute we have mentioned, we groped to understand what, and by what means, law, technology and territorial realities can do for the protection and development of the territory. In the Strait of Messina, as well as throughout Italy.
